Hi,

I am planning on heading to yosemite in June but was not able to get RV sites in the park itself.

What is the best site outside of the park for RVing?

I am heading over with my wife and two kids from Ireland and want to have a nice RV site that is not to over crowded, has a river for some fishing and swimming. We plan on doing some hikes in yosemite itself so plan on drving the RV into the park everyday.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you go to rvparkreviews.com and seach for Groveland, El Portal, Oakhust, Mariposa. You may also want to join the forum at rv.net there are lots of RVers there who go to Yosemite.

Indian Flat RV Park is on Hwy 140 so you can use the fee YARTS shuttle into the Valley. It's about 30 minutes to the Valley.
KOA Midpines is about an hour from the Valley on the same road. Since this is a lower elevation, you may be able to swim comfortably in the pool.
Yosemite Pines RV Resort is over an hour from the Valley on Hwy 120.

The rivers will be at their peak flow from snowmelt. Where the water is slow enough that it's feasible to swim, it will be way to cold. Fishing is impractical as well; the rivers & streams are too fast.

June is waterfall season. Every place you go will be filled with tourists enjoy the beauty of Yosemite in spring.

MidJuly to midSeptember are better for fishing & swimming.

If you read the reviews on Indian Flat on rvparkreviews.com they aren't very good. But it seems that it depends on the size of your rig. Many of the people complaining had large rigs, over 30-35 feet. The issue is that the place is built on a hill, so maneuvering is difficult. That being said, it is the closest RV park to Yosemite with hookups.

I had forgotten about Midpines, put that into your search as well.
