Advice on camping in Tuolumne Meadows area

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I want to plan a camping trip in July with some friends (it's actually going to be sort of a bachelor party for myself) and was looking at the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite park. I know pretty much all of the reservable campgrounds are full by now so I'm looking at some of the ones that are first come, first serve -- specifically the White Wolf campground. My question is, if we go up on a Wednesday or Thursday, will we have any problems getting a site? I know July is pretty much the most popular month for camping and I'd hate to drive all the way up and be stuck without a site. Also, if anyone's camped at White Wolf before, any thoughts on the place? Good fishing? I've only stayed in the Valley so I'm not too familiar with this area.

Thanks!

Your best bet for Tioga Road non-reserved campgrounds is mid-week (Tues.-Wed.), preferably in the morning. Tamarack Flat is good, because it's hard to get to (several miles of dirt road, but you don't need 4WD).

White Wolf campground and the others along the Tioga Road are nice, I think. They are not as crowded as the Yosemite Valley Campgrounds and all are near a creek. I don't know about fishing though.

Thanks, Dan. I've been reading around and what you said seems to be the way to go: go midweek and go early. Thanks for the reply!
