I'll be camping in Lodgepole in Sequoia National Park in early June and was wondering if it would be possible to do this hike. I've seen trip reports of others doing this as a day hike in mid April, although much of the hike was walking over snow.

Pear should be do- able, regardless, since even if the trail around the Watchtower is icy you can always go over the hump trail. Going up to Alta depends on your comfort with late spring snow.

Well, we didn't make it to Alta peak or pear lake due to heavy snow, but went to kings canyon instead because of its lower elevation. We day hiked up to Mist falls and lower paradise and saw some great scenery.

It actually snowed a few inches the day we left the park at the 6500 feet level.

The bears were out and about (we saw five of them in three days!)
