TM to Glen Aulin to Tenaya Lake (or vice versa) in late July

I'm planning a 3-day route in late July and would appreciate advice.

1) Which direction is ideal: TM to Glen Aulin to Tenaya Lake via Murphy Creek? Or starting at Tenaya Lake and ending in Tuolumne Meadows?
2) Will this year's low water flows impact enjoyment of this route enough that it should make me rethink it? I imagine waterfalls won't be roaring, but hope that water will be at least be fairly available along the route!
3) Any advice on suggested camping locations?
4) I read other posts indicating that the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne is hot and dry in late July/early August. Is that true of this trek as well?

Many thanks!

1. Everything is relative. I'd look at the gain in elevation on both routes before choosing. Some people like uphill as it's easier on the knees. Some prefer downhill.
2. Water should be fine.
3. No. Unless you're within a mile of the high sierra camp, camp where you find a spot you like, as long as you are four miles from the trailhead and two miles from the road.
4. GCT goes much lower than this route you propose. It will be hottest in late afternoon on open granite.

Thanks for the reply. I decided I'd extend it to a 4-day trip and will be starting at Glen Aulin TH and ending at Ten Lakes. Got my permit yesterday and will now research best mosquito deterrents!

The TM to Glen Aulin to Tenaya Lake route does not vary a whole lot in elevation, only from ~7900 feet to ~8700 or so. So I would expect the weather to be generally similar along the route to TM which is at about 8600 feet. Going to Ten Lakes, the trail passes by Tuolumne Peak at about 9900 feet which would be a little cooler due to the higher elevation. Generally one can figure about 3.5 degrees F cooler per 1000 feet of elevation gain. The Ten Lakes area is around 9000 feet or so.

Of course, there will be local variations due to shade, forest, water proximity, etc.
