Winter backpacking around Lake Tahoe

So in addition to my Winter trek through Yosemite, I was thinking about some other 3-4 day winter trek I could do and the Lake Tahoe area seemed like a good choice.

Preferably not too close to a ski resort, but with some nice views.

I did a one night training hike last winter near Donner Summit, but I figure I could go north along the PCT for some winter scenery.

Any other good places to look into? Not sure if the Desolation Wilderness would be good in the Winter.

Hi Jim,

You should see what these guys recommend on their website and over the phone: https://tahoerimtrail.org/

You could do some amazing section hikes all around Tahoe. You'll want to be very aware of avalanche conditions in many areas though. Probably want to carry the full complement of electronic devices: PLB, avalanche beacon, maybe even a sat phone.
