Northern Loop from Yosemite using PCT and back

I'm thinking of doing a PCT section hike from Tuolumne Meadows to Donner Pass, but I also may just go up to Sonora Pass, resupply at Kennedy Meadows and then head back to Yosemite. Kind of depends on how long I want to do that trek. The full PCT section would likely be 3 weeks, but could do the loop in about 2 weeks.

Anyone have any recommended ways back to the south?

Looks like I could go through Upper Piute Meadows and over Buckeye pass. Then return to PCT along the Matterhorn Creek Trail or Kerrick Meadow Trail. But would appreciate any hands on knowledge of these routes. Or any alternate routes.

Hi Jim

The more complicated question might be further north. The Tahoe to Yosemite Trail (TYT0 doesn't really exist, but the tough patches in that trail are from Echo Summit to Ebbetts Pass, through the canyon of the Mokelumne. I've done a lot of trail work in that area...and there is a lot more to be done. none of the trails really connect with each other, so you will be doing some bushwhacking.

As for northern Yosemite---I love Kerrick Canyon of for the big views...The "trail" up Buckeye Canyon is more of a series of cow paths at times...

If your goal is to get to Kennedy Meadows (the northern one) I'd suggest a route that includes the Ladies' Lakes (Dorothy, Stella, etc,) as they are wonderful places to explore.
