well, whats a good route to avoid going back down into fresno/ out of the mountains.
looking for any ideas on going around to the east and up 395 and into the park on the east,
or a quick route on the west side up 41.
thanks!

There is no shorter route than down 180 and up 41.

In case you have not noticed by looking at the maps, there are no alternative routes.

Unless you have a helicopter, you will either go down into Fresno, or down into Three Rivers via the Generals Highway. Both will get you to 99. From 99 you go north and over Tioga Pass through Yosemite. Or you go south and over Tehachapi Pass to the 395.

That's your options. No short cuts, no other roads that make sense. I suppose you could make some crazy route via Porterville up into the southern Sierra, but that will be much, much slower than the freeways and highways.
