While perusing my maps for some possible trips this year, the large valley where Matterhorn, Return and Regulation Creeks converge caught my eye. Wow, it appears to be quite a large glaciated valley, very rugged and remote with no trail access, not even anywhere close. This is basically north-northwest of Glen Aulin about 4 miles.

Anyway, I think an attempt to breach this valley would be beyond the scope of my family-oriented trips this year... BUT, I noticed a lake situated on the eastern rim of this valley, named Virginia Lake (not to be confused, of course). This lake - at least just from a look at the elevation lines - appears to be accessible with about a 3-mile cross-country bushwhack from the PCT at the large meadow of Cold Canyon.

I'm guessing from it's location on the lip of this valley, and from the look of the valley iteself on the map, that this may indeed be quite a spectacular spot... so the question of course is... anybody been there? I may be looking at a late July trip, so any info soon would be great!

Thanks!
