Considering a first time visit to Yosemite from Dec 30th to Jan 2 or 3rd. What is typical weather then. Timing can work out for my wife and I but wondering if first time would be better in spring time. Spring 2016 is not an option for us. So otherwise it might be a couple of years before we can make it.

That's the middle of winter. Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road will be closed. Waterfalls will be icy. Some of the trails close due to icy conditions. If the weather forecasters are correct, this year we may just have plenty of snow, so the activities will be ice skating, snowshoeing, skiing, and hot toddies by the fire over at the Lodge.

It's a great time to go if you don't like crowds and have chains/cables for the car. And warm bedding. The tent cabin rates at Curry are temperature dependent in winter. 20 degrees F and the night's stay costs $20.
