Las Vegas to Yosemite drive

Postby charlee » Sat Apr 30, 2016 6:56 am

Hi there,
In June a group of us are driving from Las Vegas to Yosemite. We would like to leave early and do it a day but on the quickest route but also sticking to relatively main roads as we aren't familiar with them.

We are staying at a Yosemite Scenic Wonders property, which is Yosemite West, so that's the side of the park we need to get to.

Advice from anyone familiar with the area would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

You can take freeways over Tehachapi Pass, then up highway 41 through Fresno, for an 8 hour trip. You can go over Tioga Pass and spend 10 hours driving from Las Vegas up the east side of the Sierra, on two lane roads. The longer one is far more scenic.

There's your options -- no major or minor routes, nothing else out there to choose from.

Thanks AlmostThere!
I won't be doing the driving so had a chat with the person who is, they've decided they would rather go the non-scenic route as they'll feel more comfortable driving that.

Would you mind naming the freeways over Tehachapi Pass? I've taken a look at a map and used a Sat Nav to map it but hard to know if it's showing the correct route. Want to map it out in advance but worried of doing the wrong roads!

Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated.

From Las Vegas you'll be on 15 to Barstow, 58 to Bakersfield and 99 to 41.
