We are two families with 5 children (ages 4 1/2, 3 1/2, 3, 2, and 1) We'll be staying in large 5-bedroom cottage over July 4th weekend. Having never done a big trip like this with children, what should we bring that I might not have thought of for safety, entertainment, basic getting around???

Any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Most accidents in Yosemite are traffic-related, so seatbelts, child safety seats, and alert driving on park roads are important.

If playing in water, avoid whitewater (turbulent water) and slick rocks.

Don't feed the bears, deer or other wildlife or pose children with animals. Black plague has been found on wild animals, including squirrels and chipmunks, in Yosemite.

Short hikes or walks or activiites are preferable to long hikes for children.

A Junior Ranger program is available in summer for children 8 to 10 in Yosemite, Tuolumne, and Wawona. See the "Yosemite Guide" newsletter, which you get on entering the park, for other children's activities.
