Panorama/4-mile trail in Thanksgiving

Postby shoenberg3 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 7:51 pm

Hello,
I understand that there is a good chance that these trails would be snowlocked by that time. Historically, however, I have seen even the glacier road open during Thanksgiving. What conditions can one expect from the trail at this time (perhaps with the speculated El Nino in mind)?

If the weather cooperates, I am planning a panorama - glacier point - 4 mile loop. What is the best way to get back tot he happy isles TH from where the 4 mile trail terminates -- besides hitchhiking?

If this plan does not work out, I am considering the yosemite falls trail (up to yhosemite point) as an alternative. The elevation is about the same, but it's south facing. What are my chances with this trail?
Thanks for hte help

Hello Shoe,

I'm doing a similar hike this weekend. From what I can tell on my map...4 mile trail is about 2.7 miles from the Trail Head parking near Happy Isles. plus its on the valley floor so that means a flat trail :)

As far as weather...well you are going to have to monitor it closely as the day approaches...if you are flexible within that week you'll have a better chance at catching a nice hike.

Thanks,
Gabe
