1> Can anyone tell me exactly what are the connections from Fresno airport to the valley? As far as I can tell one needs to board a Greyhound at the airport direct to Merced and then transfer at the Greyhound station to a Yarts bus. And then get on another bus and go to Tuolumne Meadows.

2> Is there a free bus that goes from the Meadows direct to the Valley and back? Where would i be able to get a schedule?

All the busses go to the Transportation Center in Merced, so it's easy to transfer from Greyhound to YARTS (and others). The Amtrak is a few blocks away.

The daily bus leaves Yosemite Valley to Tuolumne Meadows from Yosemite Lodge (and I believe other hotels) each morning. You can reserve at the transportation desk at Yosemite Lodge. It's not free.

There's a free shuttle bus in Tuolumne, but it only serves the local area.

Hitch-hiking from the Valley to Tuolumne also works. Visitors don't pick you up, but some locals do. You meet some interesting people that way.

How much is the round trip fare to Yosemite from the Amtrak Station in Merced, California, for adults and children?

Take the YARTS bus from the Amtrak Station to Yosemite Valley (they stop at all the hotels). See http://www.yarts.com for rates and schedules. Or call toll free 1-877-989-2787 or locally 209-388-9589.

Currently, 2004, an adult is $20 round trip. 1 child under 16 rides free with each adult. Each extra child and seniors (62 or over) are $14 each.

The bus leaves the Amtrak station 7:10a, 9a, 10:50a, and 5:15p

Its unbeliveable that Fresno is the 'Fresno Yosemite International' airport and there is no DIRECT transportation from the airport into Yosemite via HWY 41 - even in 'weather permitting' situations.

I live in Yosemite's back (Mariposa County) yard. 'YARTS' is about as good as it gets, and it's far from good. Considering that it takes almost as much time to go from FRESNO to MERCED as it does to go from FRESNO to the HWY 41 gate @ Yosemite its idiotic to have to ride to Merced and the board a bus to the park. Let alone the excess use of fossil fuels and air pollution....

Seems to me some of the so called tree hugers (The Sierra Scum oh I mean Club) would take note of this and start some type of awareness.

Of course when dealing with people who think it's okay to pollute one of your countrys greatest treasures with car exhaust and people this is not a surprise.

How do I get the Yosemite Park from Millbrae Caltrain Station? Do I take the BART? then the AMTRAK? Do the bart and amtrak schedules allow to come back the same day I go there?

Thanks.

YARTS http://www.yarts.org/ http://www.yarts.org runs a bus service between Yosemite and Merced. You board at the Merced Amtrak Station or Merced Transportation Center and they head to all the hotels in Yosemite Valley (and back).

The bus leaves Merced at 7am, 8:45am, 10:30am, and 5:25pm.

So, yes, you can get to Yosemite in one day, if you leave early enough to reach Merced by 5:25 pm. Hoever, you can go to Yosemite and come back the same day. That's hard enough to do by car (unless you don't stop and stay in the car).

The bus leaves Yosemite Valley at 10am, 4:15pm, 5:20pm, and 8:15pm.

These schedules may change, so check at the website above for changes.

As for getting from Fresno or Millbrae or whereever, it's usually fater and reliable to take Greyhound than Amtrak. But Amtrak is more fun.

Yes, the Merced Amtrak station has parking. That's probably the best place to park for the YARTS bus.
