Yosemite Valley tent camping in mid-March

Postby steveneddy » Thu Jan 17, 2008 10:34 am

Can anyone tell me what to expect in the valley in mid March? We have sleeping bags rated to 20 F, but have not tried them out yet. Is this a good time of year to snowshoe or cross-country ski in areas within hiking distance or a short drive from Pines campgrounds? Also, is there any downhill skiing in the area?
Thanks, sje

Here's a temperature chart (basically freezing at night and 60F high during the day):

The snow in March is usually difficult (hard, clumpy) for skiing. It's only 4000' on the Valley floor. Snowshoeing is easier. There's a free shutle bus to Badger Pass Ski Area, which is at 7000+ feet, that leaves from the hotels in the valley.
