Hi,

I am interested(read: going to) in taking a ~ten day trip to snowshoe across Yosemite this Febuary. Starting up near Hetch Hetchy then cutting across to the Tioga Pass. Just trying to gather some of the logistics at this point. I would think that this has definitely been done but am having trouble finding information other than three mile hikes near Badger.

If anyone has any information that would be helpful would be very... helpful.

thanks,

eric

It may be have been done, but it's not common. I've seen ski track on Tioga road in winter, but not snowshow tracks (except near the road closures and around Tuolumne Meadows.

Consider that trails are impossible or difficult to find, so rely on the Tioga Road, dirt roads, and major landmarks, such as streams. There's a winter hut in Tuolumne available for skiers and snowshoers. It's free, but first come, first serve. It's the campground reservation office in summer, just east of the Tuolumne store. Tioga Pass Winter Resort is also open, and if you say there, they take your pack down Lee Vining Road. There's a telephone in Tuolumne (it works in winter).

Alternate routes are taking the Tioga Road all the way, or taking the Snow Creek trail out of Yosemite Valley. There's a marked ski trail from the Valley rim to Tioga Road (not always well marked though).

Look at the summer trail guides and plan carefully for easy to navigate routes. Good luck.
