Me and several of my friends are going on a 3 day/2 night trip. We are headed to Chilnualna Falls but are not real sure where we want to go after that. We would like to do some fishing. This is our first over night hike though we all do long day hikes from time to time. Any suggestions, thoughts, and tips would be helpful. Thanks.

Beyond Chilnualna Falls are several miles of forest trails. Not very interesting in my mind. There's fishing along the Merced River.

I recommend a backpack along a trail from the Glacier Point Road. That gets you started in higher country with views. Head into the Illilouette Creek drainage, Ostrander Lake, and Horse Ridge areas.

I was going to do a semi-loop past Chilnualna Falls around Johnson Lake, Royal Arch Lake etc. back in May but only made it to Chilnualna Falls (long story). I was told it was worth checking out and I've sceduled it as a hike to do next year.
