I will be in the park next week from May 27-29. This is a Tues. thru Thurs., so I expect the park won't be quite as crowded. Any ideas on a 3 day/2 night trip into the backcrounty?

Tuolumne Meadows down to Yosemite Valley via Little Yosemite Valley or Clouds Rest.

Tuolumne Meadows south up the Lyell Fork of the Tuolumne and back.

Tioga Road to Yosemite Valley via Yosemite Creek and Yosemite Falls.

For the trips to Yosemite Valley, take the Tuolumne bus in the morning from Yosemite Valley (leaves early in the morning from Yosemite Lodge or Camp Curry).

Wilderness Permits are needed. Available at the Wilderness Center south of the VIsitor's Center in Yosemite Village (and other places).

According to the current conditions page of the NPS web site, Tuolumne Meadows is still under a two feet of snow (the snow pack is five feet deep west of there); the Tioga Road is not scheduled to open until June 6 or 7.

In light of Toulumne meadows still being under snow, where do you suggest for a two day hike. Are there any backpacker campsites in the main yosemite village (or further up past the vernal and nevada falls)? Can we find a place to stay this Friday (May 30th) afternoon? We'll be gone for the weekend.

If you already have your backcountry permit, you can stay one night before and one night after your trip at the backpacker-only site at the back of the Upper Pines Campground.

If your looking for a backpacking destination this late without reservations you might try Chilnualna Falls in Wawona. You might be able to get up past Yosemite Falls as well.

Good luck!
