My husband and I are planning a trip out to Yosemite in late September and are looking for the best day hikes. We will be there for 5 days. Is day hiking recommended over backpacking to see as much as you can see (many different areas of the park)? Any tips on trails would be appreciated. We are experienced hikers and backpackers. Thanks!

Erika

hi,
there is a wealth of information but i recommend:
the 4mile trail out of yosemite valley to glacier point
glacier point to taft point
half dome is always good but extremely strenuous
find a map...ive taken hikes around yosemite near wawona, hetch hetchy in september and havent run across a soul
a lot of options
good luck
tom

Just completed the 4 mile trail. What a great walk!....beginning with great views of El Capitan etc....walk around the mountain and see Half Dome.
Great time to go.....changing of the colors through out.

The walk climbs approx. 3,800 ft. climb with approx. 54 switch backs.

My seven year old son and I walked up and then back down.

If you are too tired to walk back down. Make sure you have the shuttle schedules to get back to the valley floor. Plan for most of the day. 3-4 hrs up 2-3 hrs down.

If you loved to walk and get the heart pumping, this is the walk for you!
