Current snow conditions around Tuolumne Meadows

Postby jonesybighammer » Tue May 15, 2012 12:50 am

I'm interested in a one-night loop this coming weekend (5/19), and Young Lakes sounds perfect. Can someone who's been out recently comment on the snow conditions this year? I know it'd normally be too early in the season for 9000-10000ft, but the snowpack this year is pretty light. I'm okay with some snow, but if I need crampons then I need to find something lower.

Snowshoes are not required. Go for it, you will be fine.

Walking in late spring through snow won't be a problem. Navigation might be if you are dependant on a trail. There may be lingering patches in shady or north facing áreas.

Cool thanks for the info guys. I'm perfectly fine with lingering patches, just trying to avoid ending up on snow the whole time--too much work.
