July hike - need advice

I’m doing a loop: Yosemite Valley to Tuolumne via Merced Lake and Vogelsang / back to the Valley via Cathedral Lakes, Sunrise & Clouds Rest.

We plan to re-supply at the Tuolumne store. How far is it from the JMT, and how much time should we allow for getting from the trail to the store and back to the trail?

The middle of our route has us stopping at Merced Lake, Vogelsang, Tuolumne Meadows Campground, and Cathedral Lakes. We’d like to bypass the campground. Are there good campsites between Vogelsang and Tuolumne Meadows? If so, how close can you get to Tuolumne Meadows before stopping for he night? There are bound to be restrictions on camping within certain distances from Tuolumne and the road.

Thanks

JMT is about 0.1 mile from the store and Tioga Road at its closest point. You only have to walk through the Tuolumne Meadows campground from the JMT to get to the store (and grill). The store is immediately south of the road. See this map of the park, which shows the store and JMT:

or for more detail, see the PDF version:

You must camp 4 miles from a trailhead. Lyell Canyon has lots of beautiful lakes and meadows--I don't think Raffety Canyon is as pretty and doesn't have many good campsites.

Tuolumne Meadows has a backpackers campground (a special section set aside within the Tuolumne Meadows Campground). You can spend one night before and after the trip only--I don't know about the "middle" of the trip--call and ask them. No reservations are required for the backpack campground, but you need a wilderness permit. Cost is currently $5.

Thanks Dan. That's exactly the information I needed.
