Waterwheel Falls - Any water July 2015?

Postby mikerain » Sun Mar 29, 2015 5:05 pm

We're thinking of hiking from Tuolumne Meadows to Waterwheel Falls this July 2015. We'll go to the falls and back to Tuolumne in one day, so it's a long hike. I'd hate to arrive only to find there's no water because of the pathetic snowpack this year. Maybe we should wait for a wetter year. Anyone have any info about this?

Normally we do this trip every June(been going there for the last 25 years, the same weekend in June), but the water is going to be pretty low, to almost nonexistent, so we are looking at other places . I would wait until we get more snow and the river is running.
Glacier Point Road opened today and it has to be one of the earliest openings ever, so that really says there is no snow, nor are they expecting any based on our weather pattern.

Thanks a lot, Steve. I think you're right. I'll put off this hike until a wetter year. I hope we have one soon!

Did you go to Waterwheel Falls in June 2014? How were the falls then?

No, we passed as we knew it would be way down. Setup camp at May Lake. Two of the group went off and day hiked Cloud's Rest, I went over to Parker Pass.

I just got back from Chilnualna Falls. It's running like it's July right now. By July, ugh. There is so little snow it's depressing.
