Does anyone know if the Merced Lake HSC always closes on Labor Day or is that just a coincidence for this year? Tried to research but could not find any historical close dates for the camps.

They may be closing early to do a little remodeling, or due to staffing issues, or for any number of reasons. Seasonal closures of high country facilities start in mid September anyway, due to the increasing likelihood of snow and the time it takes to prepare the facility for winter.
