After Hike hotel / motel and other questions

Postby MadDiver » Sun May 10, 2015 7:16 pm

hey All,

I'm fine tuning my travel plans. I started a new topic because these questions aren't directly applicable to backpacking/route planning.

Where is a good place to stay post backpacking trip? I need an overnight between Tuolumne Meadows and SFO. Nothing fancy, just clean, good hot water (gonna be on a plane for 5-6hours I REALLY need a shower) with a good bar and restaurant nearby.

Where can I get a stove gas canister on the way to Yosemite (coming across the bridge from Foster City/San Mateo)? On route, I don't care if the price is more... not driving out of the way to save a buck or two.

Can someone please pronounce "Tuolumne" for me!!!??? I'm serious, I've figured out a dozen or so ways and they all sound wrong

Thanks,
Aaron

twall-um-ee is how we natives say it.

you can google up some sports stores in any of the towns along 120. there are Rei, sport chalet and big five stores all over the place. any of the towns will also have hotels. Merced Or Modesto would be out in the middle and likely cheaper than places closer to SF or Yosemite.

There are also REI, Any Mountain, Dicks, Big 5, etc. all along the 580 corridor on your way through Dublin/Livermore, which is how you'll drive from SFO to Yosemite.

And it's TwALL ummy. Accent on the ALL...

Either Dick's or Big5 in Modesto will probably work, they both open at 9, REI not till 10 (Saturday). Considering the possibility of a really early start, do the Tuolumne Meadows Sport Shop or crane Flat Gas Stations carry gas canisters? I'll trying calling them if I can find a phone number...
