Trip advice - Mono Meadow

I have a permit for the end of June, 3 nights from Mono Meadow. My initial plan was to spend the first night off the Illilouette creek trail near the fork with Clark creek. Then on to Lower Merced Pass Lake. From there we layover and day hike and back out the way we came. Seems kind of boring. I don’t see any trails to Hoover Lakes. What is the cross country like? Then from Hoover over to the Buena Vista trail and out.

If you can manage it, Lower Ottoway Lake is WAY more scenic (and has fish) compared to Merced Pass Lake. Just saying....

Looks like Hoover Lakes should be doable, but that's not just a short day-hike....we figure on about 1 mph when we are going cross-country.
