Nice trails/routes between Glacier Point and Wawona

Postby WanderingJim » Tue Jun 20, 2017 9:00 am

So my planned July 4th hike from Tuolumne Meadows down Rafferty Canyon isn't going to happen due to the snow pack.

Have a permit for a north rim hike, but was wondering what the trails south of Glacier Point Road down to Wawona are like, if they have any grand scenic views, and any suggestions on routes.

Looks like that area is mostly free of snow (relatively), so might be worth exploring.

Chilnualna Creek may be uncrossable, as might Bridalveil. Buena Vista pass and Horse Ridge (near Ostrander/Hart Lakes) are the view vantage points. Otherwise it's lots of forests, meadows (aka mosquito farms, ponds, bogs, muddy morasses full of bugs...)

There will be lots of fallen trees, snowbanks in shaded areas and on the pass. The route is either the west side of the loop or the east side of the loop - you might flip a coin. The lost bear trailhead is more popular than the bridalveil campground one, which is good because there's not much parking at bridalveil...
