Shattered Air should be required reading for every Half Dome hiker issued a permit, also every single Whitney hiker.... People continuing up into a storm with children because they think "it's just a little rain" has been proven again and again to be a really stupid idea.

The statistic about deaths caused by lightning is sobering enough. If they had published stats on those disabled by it, that would speak volumes as well -- it can be partially or wholly debilitating, to have your neurons scrambled by that much voltage.
