Yeah...well some of that in the high country might actually be clouds. It might have rained today, according to the weather report...and more may come tomorrow. that would help with the smoke.

I spoke to a wilderness office staff member at TM today. he said the smoke is really variable---sometimes heavy, sometimes almost invisible. And it changes by the day and the hour and the direction of the wind.

I checked the webcams several times today and it was variable. Very yellowish-brown in the morning in all but TM, then very hazy and yellow midday, then almost clear by about 6pm. TM itself was fine in the morning, then got worse up until mid afternoon, then cleared, but Grand Mountain in the distance had a sickly yellow haze in front of it all day. There might have been some low clouds, but the color was what I was going off of. Maybe some low clouds, but the smoke is a huge factor. I did wonder about the High Sierra cam, but it's right up there next to the Empire Fire, and the Badger Pass cam showed some really gross air just hanging in the valleys.

Here's this again, updated for today.
