last day of summer

Well, it's September 21st, the last day of Summer, and it's snowing in Yosemite. Glacier Point Rd and Tioga Pass are both temporarily closed, up to a few inches is predicted above 6,000 ft, and nighttime temperatures are several degrees below freezing. This is temporary as a cold front comes down from the north, but it's a good indication that September isn't a time without need to be prepared, by any means. Nice hiking weather, but stay on top of the forecasts, and don't get caught out by whatever nature throws at you.

Good advice, Phil. But it's also a wonderful time to be in the Sierra, if the weather holds.

if not, hunker down with a good map and start planning your next trip...!

The ground isn't cold enough to keep it, but it's a nice view from a bunch of webcams while it lasts.... It'll keep spitting until October and hopefully start sticking toward November.

Meanwhile I'm heading for Desolation next week, after spending the weekend cutting trees out of trails. Snow should be melted out again by Saturday.
