Hey, Anyone offering advice is greatly appreciated.

We plan on Visiting Yosemite in late October for seven days. We would like to do an overnight hike. Tenaya lake to Clouds Rest To the Valley.
Would love to leave the car in the valley and get a ride to Tenaya. Is there an easy way to get a ride this time of year?

Thanks!
Dennis

You can't park a vehicle overnight on Tioga Pass after Oct 15. This is due to increasing likelihood of a snow storm that will close the pass for the winter. The busses and shuttles go on a winter schedule, the facilities along that road will all be closed and shuttered against the snow. Hitchhiking is about it.

October is winter, after all. Hope you are prepared for any weather that may occur, and some cold nights. (Bear canisters still required tho - the bears don't really hibernate.)

Yeah, you really will want to stay well apprised of what the weather's going to be doing that time of year. Not always, but storms can hit hard and fast, and it is always good to be prepared.

The other thing that AT mentions about the shuttles and parking make it best if you do it as a loop beginning and ending in the valley and avoid the whole parking and shuttle thing. Two nights and three days on the trail would be just about right for you: one night up to Sunrise Creek, camp there, next day to Cloud's Rest and then towards Sunrise Lakes for the second night, camp at the trailside pond part way there or go to the lakes themselves, drop back down to the JMT on the Forsyth Trail, then either hike back down to the valley or spend the night again at Sunrise Creek or LYV and hike out the next day.

If you do want to stick with your original plan, in order to use the shuttle, it's going to be via YARTS, and limited to only on weekends. Check their website to be sure of their operational dates and schedules.

Thanks Guys! Much appreciated. I like the idea of starting and ending in the Valley. Solves my problem.
Going to have to get some cold weather gear.
