I'm told the smoke situation had died down considerably but how does it look from on top of Half Dome? I'm considering doing a backpack trip, if I get a permit for preferred trailhead and for HD, but I don't want to go up there unless it is really clear.

Skies are pretty darn clear in Yosemite now. And we may even get a bit of rain this weekend. That would help. Check the Yosemite WebCams for a sense of what the views are like...
