Reserved Wilderness Permit Pickup

I have permits reserved for a group of five to hit the trails on Aug 18th. Due to unforeseen circumstances I may not get into Yosemite until after the ranger stations close. Two of our party are heading up a day earlier. Can they pick up the permits for the group, even though the reservation was made in my name, if I gave them the confirmation letter?

Wasn't sure about this, as the last time I had reserved wilderness permits I was the one picking them up and outside of Yosemite the permit process wants names of others in the group. The permit I have only lists the number in the party.

Sure would make things easier for us if I could have a proxy get them.

I've picked up my wilderness permits the day before several times. I like to get an early start and sleep high at a campground when reasonably possible. A letter would help if the name is different--I've always picked it up under my name.

Never have I been asked for a drivers license or any form of identification when picking up a permit.
And they never ask for the other peoples names.
And unlike other permit places they do not ask much of your itinerary.
Although I was told once when I had a reservation that I had to
come out the EXACT day that was on the reservation.... hahaha...
ya right...

I'd concur with dan and just go ahead and write a
letter and give it to the person picking up the permit (along with the confirmation/reservation).

One thing I don't understand is ... it seems you MAY be arriving after 5pm
on your entry date... that does not give you much time to hike in to your
first campsite... ????

Sorry if I wasn't clear on my original post. We are heading up to Yosemite on Sunday the 17th for a trip beginning on the 18th. My intention was to have the permits in hand when we overnight at White Wolf so that we can go straight to the trailhead early, and not have to drive to a Ranger Station to pick up the permits on the morning we plan to start our hike.

Sounds like a letter is the way to go. I'll make sure my other party has the confirmation letter as well. Thanks for the quick replies. If all else fails, I'll take an early morning drive out to Tuolomne Meadows to get the permits on Monday. The positive side of that is that it's a beautiful drive, the negative is it just puts us on the trail later.
