Do refreshing adult beverages (tequila) need to fit into my bear canister or can it stay out?

They need to fit in your canister. I saw a ranger ticket someone at mays lake who had left their bottle of whiskey out of the canister then went off for a hike. I offered to "store" the whiskey, but the ranger wasn't up for it.
