John Muir Trail from Yosemite - August 2020

Postby WanderingJim » Sun Sep 13, 2020 3:27 pm

So, it took almost as long as the trek itself did, but I wrote up my daily reports and went though all my photos (all 9,000+ of them). I picked out the photo highlights, plus removed the blurry and embarrassing ones. I still have to go through my movies and clean those up.

The reports were written with friends, family, co-workers, and hikers in mind. Some of the info may not be interesting to everyone, but hopefully you find most of it interesting and informative.

Some of the rants and complaining about switchbacks (and other things) may be exaggerated a little, but I did take notes on the trail so some of it is based on my thoughts at the time.

Added the Movies:

Fortunately, I wasn't on the trail when the fires exploded in September, but there was some impact from fires while I was on the JMT (days 20 and 24, in particular).

Enjoy!

Really nice! that was a lot for work--not the hike, the report! I'll go back and read more of the details, but I think you really nailed the combination of tone, detail, information, and fun.

Trust me, the JMT was harder. :)

But, yeah, the reports took a while, but it's easier than explaining what I did in August dozens of times to friends and family. :)
