It's way too complicated to try to summarize here....but day use permits are now coming into effect...and more.

The parks are going bankrupt. Their funding is non existent and they are reliant on massive tourism. At this rate- and with these god awful decisions the NPS might as well be flushed down the toilet.

https://www.nationalparkstraveler.org/2 ... 37-million
Well the parks are reliant on tourism in the form of entrance fees. That has been reduced with a lack of visitation as the NPS is going out of its way to deny the public entry to our national lands. If you want to camp in camp 4 you know need to get a reservation one day in advance. And pay a $10 fee to "apply" for the permit. And thats on top of the needed computer and secure internet you must have in order to even apply for said permit- effectively a financial litmus test for entry.
And as always- the NPS budget is being raided for political purposes.
Here is $150 million for nothing

The long term goal of all this is planned destruction so they can "fix" the problem they created.. I feel bad for the entrance workers- their job is caput.. .Along with a lot of others...

While the permits seem to be an overreaction on the part of the Park Service, I don't agree with the conspiracy theories either.
The Park Service does not keep the entrance fees. Unfortunately it all goes to the U.S. Treasury's General Fund, not the National Park Service, not Yosemite.

Also, it's far-fetched to think the Park Service is actively planning to destroy national parks to fix some unknown problem.

The mission of the park service: The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

Permits and all the red tape exist to protect things from the endless, endless influx of people who DO NOT GET IT and trash the place. The more people flood into the wilderness, the more the system tries to choke back the flow so the wilderness can rebound.

I get the frustration, but until people care more about the park than they do their own selfish desire to do what they want, when they want to do it, damn the fire regulations and Leave No Trace, the people are going to have to expect to be regulated. The very first sentence: PRESERVES. Police ourselves better, there'll be less of a choke chain.

Really f'ing sick of picking up people's feces. Honest to dog. People make me despair that there will be a wilderness left, in a decade.

Hate to break it to you folks but a lot of the NPS workers are not there because they like the parks. A lot of them got into the work because they dont like the public using the parks system and they literally try to work against the public's interest. Many have an 'Edward Abbey' hypocritical mindset of everyone else is destroying nature while they themselves are nature's savior. Many "back to the land" hippies got into land management because they did not like the way the parks were run and they sought to restrict the public's use of the land in a manner they saw fit. You can thank those people for the shoulder to shoulder campgrounds in our parks. What little of them still exist.
And considering the parks often dont even fund basic things like trail work in the manner they should- it should not surprise anyone that their interests might be nefarious in nature, and or political. The parks has nothing to do with PC politics but for over a decade they have been spending millions on just that.

The reason the NPS has one of the lowest federal workplace ratings is because most show up eager to help the NPS and do their part for the greater good of humanity- only to later leave cynical and angry at the corruption, nepotism, and general dysfunction of our parks system. I dont see anything positive coming from more restrictions and more rules because of you know.. Covid..

Yep. On our trip to Sequoia last week we hiked down into Redwood Canyon for half a day and stopped for lunch in a towering grove of Sequoias. And had to clean up some TP there. This after seeing a total of one other group on the trail. sigh.
