Well, not right now. But that's the title of an excellent documentary we just watched on PBS. And it's available via streaming right here: https://www.westisburning.org/

It combines the outlook of forestry professionals, environmentalists, local communities, and loggers to tell the story of where we are right now, and what we have to do to get to where we want to be in terms of making our forests, and ultimately our communities, safer.

One of the reasons it really hit home is that much of the fire footage and some of the interviews are from people in Sonoma County, just over the hills from where we live. And we know both the people and the communities.

Despite the horrific impact of fires over the past few years, this film has actually given us a little hope that we might be able to turn this whole thing around. And that's a very nice feeling.

Since fire is now a part of the planning for any backpacking trip in Yosemite, I'd suggest it's worth watching.

I think it's definitely worth watching, thanks for the link. There are a lot of documentaries about the problem now including one about the Creek Fire.

It's depressing to drive up 168, as there's not as much regrowth as one would hope. I'd expect to see little green spots in all the char, as the grasses and ground cover is usually the first thing to pop up. Things are going to be much, much different as time passes, I think.

Yosemite Ntaional Park staff have completed the May 1 snow surveys. Water content for the Tuolumne drainage is at 25% of average, and at 31% of average for the Merced drainage.

It's going to be a sad, difficult year.... I hope people learn to put out campfires properly, or just live without them for once... as usual, I'll be traveling the wilderness with a bucket to haul water, to clean up after the careless....
