I did see firsthand third world living conditions on the Taos Pueblo. Not gonna say who is to blame as I have no clue but an 80 year old woman living in a hut with dirt floors, plastic on the windows and the only visable food being some unseasoned dried buffalo jerky hanging off a rusty wire was pretty disturbing .. that was 2008. And its North America's oldest structure.
As for politics- the general public has no clue what goes on and is going on. In fact there would be riots if the peasants got wind of a quarter of the BS that goes on. Honestly it seems the public lands experiment in the US is largely over.
