Are you a Lurker?

Postby balzaccom » Tue Dec 20, 2022 12:33 pm

Clearly, There are lots of people who look at these posts. Some of the posts have thousands of views.

And yet there are only a couple of us who post here regularly--and that number seems to be shrinking.

Are you a lurker? Do you visit these pages, but add nothing? Is it because you feel you have nothing to say? We're always curious about who is here--and what they are thinking. WE'd love to hear from you.

Won't you lend us a hand and join in?

Tell us what you did when you visited Yosemite, or what you'd like to do the next time you visit. Or tell us What you love about Yosemite--the waterfalls, the granite, those crazy bears-or what you don't like--the crowds, the smoke-filled air, those crazy bears.

But most of all, participate. Because without your participation, these boards are becoming stale. Instead of interactive, they are just inactive.

And that would be sad.

No, just incredibly busy with my new place in Coarsegold. It was a bigger mess than I originally anticipated but then isn't that always the case with a new place. So looking forward to getting this place in shape and getting out into the backcountry.
I am on a Car forum where you have to be registered to see any answers and you are tracked when you look at a post. I suspect it is due to a revenue issue as they can say we have 8 million people registered, never mind only 30 people are actually active...LOL

VERY delayed response to your post…!

I used to be an avid reader and occasional participant, getting a ton of help and useful info from the folks here. The wildfires that spoiled our trip in 2018 (had to switch to SEKI at the last minute) just seemed to have become so commonplace that I decided to look for activities elsewhere and stopped reading the forum.

However, my son and I are considering a return in 2024, to have a second attempt at the route we had to abort 5 years ago - Red Peak pass from Mono Meadow - so here I am. Will start a new thread for it.

Avid trail runner, but I developed a heart condition, one which I would have died from if not for all the running I do (100% blockage smack dab in the center of my left descending coronary artery). The collateral artery that developed around the blockage was big enough to make me suspect an ulcer instead of, well, die.
Getting surgery to deal with "all that" in March, then I should be back to the races! That JMT run from Tuolunme Meadows to Reds Meadow resort awaits, though I may train for it with some shorter runs this summer and save the big show for 2025.

Duane, that looks like a great run! I had to look it up, seems to be about 35 miles, would you do that in a day?

Yes, but I would "cheat" a little bit by switching to the PCT atThousand Island Lake and rejoining the JMT at Agnew Meadow about 4 miles from Devil's Postpile to complete the run.
I've run the PCT from Agnew Meadow to1000 Island Lake, an 18 mile round trip. It's high and it stays high, so you avoid all the up and down of the JMT through there, and the views are fantastic! Took me about 7 hours to do that.

Be sure and wave as you run by. I'll be the old geezer struggling along at under 2 mph...with a pack and plan to spend a few days trying to cover the same ground.

Actually, I usually go off trail for at least a portion of my trips, and always hike off-season during the weekdays.
