Mosquitos

The various posts touch up a bit on mosquitos so I want to ask everyone what they do to manage or even avoid getting eaten!

I've been looking at different types of lotions...i.e. Deet, organic based, and so on.

Oh and my trip is in late June/early July from TM to Yosemite Valley.

I put this on a different post last year:

-DEET is your friend.... Guaranteed to work. Other stuff is suspect..
-Deep Woods Off... that sort of thing... personally I would say don't
worry too much about the "ill" effects... unless you plan on using it for
weeks on end...
-Long Sleeves, Long Pants
-Camp or stop for breaks IN the wind... it will help keep them at bay
-Headnet. If you wear a baseball cap you can just have it on the rim
and when hiking it won't feel restricting... when you stop you can pop
it down to keep them off... with DEET they won't bite but will still drive
you nuts
-Keep hiking... typically the amount will very greatly by elevation...

Very late June - Mid July.
You pretty much should plan on seeing alot of mosquitos.
They will vary by elevation but there is no guarantee.
One year July 4, alot at Tenaya Lake, very few on top of Clouds Rest.
Last year ... very few in TM... unbearable at Cathedral Pass/Budd Lake.

So it all depends. Be prepared. Bring a tent.

So again:
- Tent
- Headnet
- DEET bug spray
- Long Pants (tight weave)
- Long Shirt (again, tight weave)

Not sure how well the "mosquito" clothes work.

What do you think of those mosquito coils...i use them every once in a while when camping in Emigrant Wilderness off of highway 108. but then again there seems to be not to many mosquitos over there.

These coils are are easy to carry and light weight.

I've been eaten alive at Emigrant Meadow Lake.... and at
Kennedy Lake... and... :)
So I think you just got lucky in the Emigrant.

I forgot about the coils... yeah, I use them too... sometimes if they
aren't really thick they seem to do some good...
If they are really thick it just seems like there are enough dive
bombers to annoy you regardless..
