Hiking the Four Mile Trail

Postby samanan » Wed Apr 15, 2009 5:49 am

Am planning to go to Yosemite in the third week of May. The Glacier Point road may not be open at that time. If that is the case, will I be able to hike up to Glacier Point via the four mile trail?

I don't think I will be able to do the cross country skiing thing from Badger Pass. Too long and not enough experience cross country skiing.

Suggestions / ideas are most welcome ;-)

It's always open to Union Pt. There are great views from there.. so
you probably just want to hike up to that pt. regardless..

They are plowing GP road now... so.. you just never know...
It will probably open sometime in late May.

4 Mile is usually open sometime in May. I would guess that you will be
really close on wether it is open when you are there.
I would say no way if we get another storm like just came thru that
dumped up to 2 ft. of snow.

Tentative opening date of GP road is April 24.

Amazing but true.

bill-e-g, thanks for the info. Just saw that note on the nps.gov site about the tentative Glacier Point Rd. opening. Global Warming ;-)

It turns out that someone else is now in charge..
GP road has never opened that early.
There is still a whopping 25 inches of snow at Ostrander just
to give an idea how much is out there.
If you look at the "Easter Weekend" post you can find a link
to some picts I took ... one of them is Beuna Vista Crest and
Horse Ridge area. A whole lotta snow.
