Trans-Sierra

Postby Heybooboo » Wed Apr 29, 2009 2:39 pm

My wife and I will be taking a trans-Sierra route this June from Happy Isles to Devils Postpile. All permit reservations are in hand. Route is through LYV, Merced Lake, Vogelsang, Lyell Cyn, Donahue Pass, Lake Ediza, Postpile, Mammoth Lakes, YARTS back to valley. This is our first trans-Sierra. Any thoughts, suggestions, opinions.
Dates are for late June.

How many days?

Are those the places you plan on staying? Or was that just to give the route?

I really loved Garnet so I can imagine Ediza is just as spectacular.

Those places are just for the route. We plan to be out 5 nights.

First night around Bunnell Point, either above the cascades or just below.
2nd night Vogelsang HS backpacking camp.
3rd night south end of Lylle Canyon just below Donahue Pass.
4th night near cutoff to Lake Ediza.
5th night Johnson Meadow.
The next morning it should be about a 3 mile hike into Devils Postpile, catch the tram out of park to hotel across from YARTS bus stop which we will catch @ 7 am the next morning. YARTS is $15 each back to Curry Village. That's reasonable.

Should be a kick.

Years ago my wife did Tahoe to Mt. Whitney on a 6 weeks trip. She said Banner and Ritter peaks are spectacular so that is why we're taking this route.
