What average time of day for thunderstorms?

Postby BrendanSF » Mon Jun 08, 2009 1:10 pm

I know nobody can predict what will happen any given day, but on average, what time of day have the recent T-storms been showing up in Yosemite? I'm planning a loop hike up Four Mile Trail, to Sentinel Dome, then down the Panoramic trail. My plan is to summit Sentinel by 11am and head down right away, to avoid becoming a human lightning rod.

I stayed home this past weekend but this coming weekend looks like more of the same.

My experience has been in the late summer, like August, that there are in the afternoon. 3-5pm would be your best shot for them. This early in the season, if storms are coming in, it could be at any time. I just talked to my friend that lives in Groveland and I'm told they have had thunderstorms all last week.
