pretty sure it is 15 degrees
unless sighting distant peaks I find it a non-issue since there
are so many trails along with valleys
kinda hard to get lost IMO

It's about 14 degrees according to
http://www.magnetic-declination.com/
YOSEMITE VILLAGE CA
Latitude: 37° 44' 43" N
Longitude: 119° 35' 50" W
Magnetic declination: 13° 57' EAST
Declination is POSITIVE

It's moved over the years. Back in the late 60's using maps from the 40's and 50's the declination was 16 1/2 degrees.

Why is the declination even important?

Because most maps give true north...and if you look at your compass, it won't correspond to North on the map.
Good way to get lost.

I'll take a map and compass over GPS any day! My compass never needs batteries.
