OFF TOPIC - Looking for forum for sequoia/kings canyon

Postby holz » Wed Jul 08, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi,

I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask in regard to the High Sierra trail in Sequoia. Does anyone know of a similar board that covers that area?

I will also ask the biggest question here in case someone knows. . .

It appears that one could go cross country from the Kern River Drainage to Crabtree Meadow. Is that possible, if so, how hard is it?

Thank you all and my apologies for the off topic question.

Backpacker's Magazine (backpacker.com) has a forum, and among its memmbers are a forest service employee who spent a number of years working in Sequoia/Kings and hiked many of the trails, plus a number of others who have hiked the HST. I would bet you'd get some good feedback if you post over there. I haven't personally spent a lot of time in Sequoia but hope to change that soon. :)

If you do go out to Sequoia, try the Mineral King area. Big and Little 5 Lakes are marvelous! Getting to MK is a hassle, but well worth the effort!

Greeat. Just what I need another ... forum.

There's also the Whitney Portal Store Forum.

I'll give my 2 cents.

Have you done the HST entirely already?
Is so... then you know what Wallace Creek is like.
Whitney Creek looks to me to be actually worse.
This is something you do to not save time but because
you want to see the innards of Whitney Creek.
Take a look at Google Earth.

There's alot of great xcountry in SEKI. This is not one that
would be high on my list. (I've actually contemplated the
same thing to save time on that route... but came to
the conclusion above) (i.e. take the trail up Wallace and over)

If you find any other info... can you please post here. Thx.
