Medlicott Dome

Postby balzaccom » Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:08 pm

Just checking out topo maps today, and I noticed two small lakes west of Lower Cathedral...on the slopes of Medlicott Dome. From the topo maps, they don't look hard to get to from Lower Cathedral.

Has anyone hiked to them? And since we're on the subject, has anyone hiked to the top of the dome?

Those lakes/ponds are easy to get to, yes, from Lower.
I've hiked to them. I tried to get up Medlicott dome but I'm
pretty sure I couldn't get all the way up due to the slope.
That was about 5 or so years ago so I don't have a GPS track
of where I went.
Regardless if you are in that area you should go check it out
for yourself. Even without getting all the way up the views
are worth it.

Hmm... I just looked at Topo map and... it looks like I was
up Medlicott. That one is trivial. The only one in that area
that is not do-able without climbing equipment is the dome
directly north of Medlicott and east of 9970.
Looking at the map I went up Medlicott then up the dome to the
east and then attempted to go up the dome north of
Medlicott and got stymied.
Anyway, I can throw up a pict. of that dome if you like, but
the answer is... Medlicott is easy from Lower Cathedral as
are the two ponds near Medlicott.

Have fun

Thanks Bill. If we're stymied on a trip to Carson Pass this weekend, then we'll check it out!
