Reliable Water Source between Cloud's Rest and Half Dome?

Postby Pbattler » Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:27 pm

I am considering a 4 day trip from Tenaya Lake to Curry Village, with my boys, after Labor Day. I am confident we could continue down to Little Yosemite and get water, but it sure would be nice to camp up near that trail junction (the first legal camping past Little Yosemite, according to the NPS website) and get a head start on the side hike up Half Dome. This has been a pretty wet Spring in Tuolumne, with a late opening, so...

Sunrise Creek is reliable. It's one of my favorite camping spots, but you need to go to the junction of the John Muir Trail and Clouds Rest Trail (not Half Dome Trail). The creek does not flow to the JMT/CRT junction, but flows down to the Merced in Little Yosemite Valley.

So, if you're coming down from Half Dome, take the short 1/4 mile detour from HDT/JMT to CRT/JMT.
