Looking forward to visiting Yosemite April 10th-15. Will we be allowed to climb half dome at that time of year? Is the cable route the only route to the top or is there some other way? Also is there a trail camp along the way so that we can do the trip in two days instead of one?

Thanks

You can do it the old fashioned way--clime without the cables. Hundreds of rock climbers do it every year, including April.

For the rest of us, wait until the rangers put the cables up in May (the goal is by Memorial Day--no guarantees). When the cables are up, NPS issues a press release at http://www.nps.gov/yose/news/

Hi there--

I am interested in hiking half-dome, me and about 5 other friends. All but one of us had hiked it before and I'm the one organizing and researching the hike. Is it entirely out of the question to hike it during the first week of April, I mean is it allowed by the park rules--I couldn't locate the calendar on the website....
Please, anyone, let me know- . If it isn't allowed or it's really extra dangerous and not recommended, can anyone suggest another hike that is maybe less challenging and for sure will be open to the public furing March 30th- April 3rd.... Thanks for any info....

Hi Ruby...did you happen to be in Norfolk, VA back in 1991?

I just hiked up this trail last weekend (March 28th)/ You hit snow heading out of Little Yosemite Valley. Along the shoulder there is a fair amount of snow. As for heading up the cables, be careful. It looks inviting, with the cables hanging down there, but beware. It's a long and dangerous pull to the top. If I were you, I'd be happy with all the other trails open now.
