A couple years ago we camped at a sight that was right at the start of the trail to half-dome. We just rolled out of our tent and hit the trail. Which site would that have been?

Will I need any kind of special tires getting up there in May or will the snow be non-existent?
thanks in advance,
Jesse

The closest campground is Upper Pines Campground. It's only a quarter mile or so from Happy Isles, which is where the trail begins.

Snow is rare in the Valley in May. Mosquitos are not, however.

IM WANTING TO HIKE HALFDOME THE LAST WEEK OF MAY. I WANT TO START AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? CAMP OUT IN A CAMPGROUND CLOSEST TO HAPPY AILES TRAILHEAD OR STAY NEARBY AND DRIVE INTO THE PARK IN THE MORNING. WHAT ABOUT WEATHER THAT TIME OF YEAR.

Camp in one of the Pines campgrounds (Upper Pines is closest) and start at sunrise--it's nice and cool and not crowded.

You could drive in, but you'll lose an hour or so getting there and getting ready. It's really an all day hike (unless you are in excellent condition or don't spend much time at the top).

The cables should be up end of May, but if it's a heavy snow year, they may not be up. Check on the NPS website at http://www.nps.gov/yose/ http://www.nps.gov/yose/ (under "Current Conditions").

Weather is nice that time of the year in Yosemite Valley. You need a jacket in the morning and evening, but it's not too hot during the day (as it is in summer).
