Half Dome hiker falls & dies, 8/22/2011

A man fell down the face of Half Dome Mon. 8/22/2011. He was reported falling by climbers and fell on the "Death Slabs" at the base of the Half Dome face. He climbed up the cables to the top of Half Dome. His name is unknown and he had no ID. It's not known if it's a suicide, although that has happened in the past.

Personally, when I've been at the edge of Half Dome, or El Capitan, Taft Point, or similar spots, I crawl on my belly to peek over the edge. Call me chicken, but accidents are fatal around the edge.

I didn't see news reports until this evening (Tues. night), so I guess it will be in the Wednesday newspapers:

Update: His name is Ryan Leeder, 23-year old man from Los Gatos, California.
