Little Yosemite to Valley Floor in hours

Postby djduty » Wed May 15, 2013 12:06 pm

Hi,

I am planning a trip up half dome in June and I was wondering if anyone could estimate the time it would take to get down from Little Yosemite to the Valley Floor (Happy Isles trailhead) in hours. I think it is 4.4 miles and I realize it depends on our hiking speed but I was just looking for an estimate. Thanks for your help.

I do not think anyone can tell you that. Variables include things like whether you are fit enough to hike tall granite steps at a good pace, how many tourists are choking the trail at the time, which is impacted by the current closure of the john muir trail, and how many pictures you want to take.

I can do the mist trail in an hour from happy isles to nevada falls - at 8 am before the tourist hhordes and the hot baking afternoon sun starts to cook hikers dry. Later in the day it depends on how hot and crowded it is. Also, if the falls are high, the steps are wet and slippery.
