Half Dome Permit for backpacking trip starting outside Park

Postby mhinch » Sun Mar 23, 2014 3:49 pm

I'll be doing a backpacking trip, probably from Mammouth Lakes to Tuolumne Meadows, this fall. I'd like to head up Half Dome on the way. Since I'm starting outside the park, I'll get my Wilderness Permit from Inyo NF. Do I get the Half Dome permit as part of that process (don't see how on the website)? Am I classified as a Half Dome day-hiker and therefore need to apply separately by that process (via lottery, etc.)?
